At Daily Edge News, our commitment to ethical journalism is the foundation of our relationship with our readers, our sources, and the public. As a member of the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA), we adhere to its official Code of Ethics.

This document outlines the internal Ethics Policy and Code of Conduct that every member of the Daily Edge News team is required to follow. These principles ensure our conduct, both online and offline, consistently reflects our standards of integrity, impartiality, and professionalism.

1. Accuracy, Plagiarism, and Fairness

Accuracy is paramount. We are committed to the truth and will promptly correct any mistakes made in our reporting, as detailed in our Correction Policy. Plagiarism is a grave breach of journalistic ethics and is strictly prohibited. We always strive for fairness and balance in our coverage.

2. Independence and Conflicts of Interest

To maintain our credibility, Daily Edge News and its journalists must remain free of any conflicts of interest that could compromise our integrity.

  • No Personal Gain: Team members must avoid situations where personal interests conflict with their professional duties. This includes investments or outside business relationships with entities we cover.

  • Disclosure: Any potential conflicts, real or perceived, must be disclosed to a senior editor immediately.

  • Political Activity: Our journalists do not engage in political activity or public advocacy that could call their impartiality into question.

3. Gifts, Favors, and Payments

Our reporting cannot be influenced by outside interests.

  • Prohibition of Gifts: To maintain independence, our journalists do not seek or accept gifts, favors, paid travel, or special treatment from individuals or organizations they may cover.

  • Exceptions: Exceptions may be made for items of nominal value (e.g., books for review, tickets to an event being covered, or a standard working meal), with prior approval from an editor.

4. Confidentiality and Source Protection

  • Confidential Information: Unauthorized disclosure of proprietary company information is strictly prohibited.

  • Protecting Sources: The journalistic principle of protecting confidential sources is sacred. We will protect the identity of sources who provide information on the condition of anonymity.

5. Social Media Guidelines

We recognize that the conduct of our team on social media reflects upon Daily Edge News.

  • Be Professional and Respectful: All team members must maintain professionalism in their online communications, avoiding posts that could be construed as harassment, hate speech, or bullying. We respect the privacy of others.

  • Be Honest and Accurate: We do not share false or misleading information. If a mistake is made on a personal social media account related to our work, it should be promptly corrected.

  • Maintain Impartiality: Our journalists must be mindful that their activity on social media, even on personal accounts, can affect the public’s perception of their impartiality.

  • Distinguish Personal Views: Posts on personal accounts should reflect personal viewpoints. References to Daily Edge News should clearly identify the individual as an employee and, where appropriate, include a disclaimer that views are their own.

6. Reporting Concerns and Compliance

  • Reporting: Any team member who has a concern about a potential violation of this policy is encouraged to report it to their senior editor or management.

  • No Retaliation: Retaliation against whistleblowers is strictly prohibited.

  • Compliance: Violations of this policy will lead to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
